Halle Berry: Never say never

Halle Berry

Halle Berry believes her daughter’s prayers made her fall pregnant again.

The 47-year-old actress and her husband Olivier Martinez welcomed their son Maceo in October last year and she also has six-year-old daughter Nahla from a previous relationship.

Nahla had always longed for a sibling, but Halle always felt she was too old to have another baby. She is adamant that there must have been some divine intervention.

“I mean, I didn’t think it was possible to have another baby and I thought for sure I had a need never to get married again. So, I’ve learned never to say never,” she told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

“Nahla prayed and prayed for him for like a year and a half for a baby and a bunk bed and she got both of those things.’

“It’s a miracle. Only her prayers could have done this. I didn’t think it was possible at my age, honestly.”

The actress explained that Maceo’s arrival has completely changed her family’s life. She is thrilled to be a mother again, although was less excited about the way her pregnancy was referred to by the medical profession.

“They call it a geriatric pregnancy,” she laughed. “I was, you know, on my way…this is probably way TMI [too much information], but I was really, you know, kinda premenopausal so to have this happen was a huge [shock].”

Nahla loves helping to take care of her little brother and treats him like he is one of her dolls. Her favorite thing is to get him dressed, so she cunningly often puts something on his shirt so she has an excuse to pick him out a new outfit.

The whole family view Maceo as magical, although that doesn’t mean having another baby has come without problems.

“There’s a difference between boys and girls. You know, I’m nursing both…I breastfed Nahla and I’m nursing my baby. When I would put Nahla on the boob she would go [light sucking] a nice little girly suck with him it’s like [chomping suck] he’s like sucking the life out of me. So I see the difference between boys and girls,” Halle laughed.
