Ariana Grande was “so nervous” during the American Music Awards.
The 20-year-old star performed her new hit Tattooed Heart and was also nominated for the New Artist of the Year award at the star-studded ceremony.
Ariana took to Twitter shortly before the show, revealing she was getting anxious about how the night would turn out.
“Already at the venue for sound check, sooo nervous / excited for tonight #AMAs,” she wrote Sunday afternoon.
Despite her nerves, Ariana put on a stellar show.
She turned heads on the AMAs red carpet in a glittering crimson Dolce & Gabbana gown, and later took home the New Artist honor, beating competition from Florida Georgia Line, Imagine Dragons, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Phillip Phillips.
Ariana’s nerves were still jittery as she took the stage.
“Oh my god I’m so nervous. Thank you so much. This is for my fans. I have the most loving and supportive fans in the world and I love them so much,” she said, pulling out a list of names from the bodice of her gown.
“My mom made me this thing and I have it in here so I don’t forget anybody… I have 10 seconds… Oh I have nine seconds – that’s intimidating!” she said before rattling off the names of people she wanted to thank.
“This is crazy! I love you thank you!” she said.
The 2013 American Music Awards, held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live, was hosted by Pitbull.
