John Goodman decided to become an actor after a kiss from his eighth grade drama teacher.
The 61-year-old star may have appeared in well-known films like The Borrowers, Monsters, Inc. and Argo but even he had to start somewhere. His first role was as a student and will always have a special place in his heart.
“[I was] Grandpa Vanderhof in You Can’t Take It with You in the eighth grade,” John told British film magazine Empire.
“I forgot my lines so I improvised a speech. My heavily bosomed drama teacher came up and gave me a great big hug and a kiss afterwards and that marked me somehow.”
From that fledgling performance, John has gone on to have a highly successful career both on the big and small screen spanning 30 years.
The former Roseanne star also discussed how 15 years after the release of the Coen Brothers’ The Big Lebowski fans still quote lines to him.
“I mostly get, ‘Shut the f**k up Donny!’ I’m not even Donny, but I still get told to shut the f**k up,” he laughed.
The star has admitted he feels shy when giving interviews in the past.
But he overcame his reservations to discuss how hairy his butt is on a scale of one to ten with the publication.
“Zero. Less than one. Seriously, I got nothing,” he said.
“I didn’t have much to begin with, and whatever I had fell out. It’s flat, it’s board-like, it’s a non-ass – it’s not a chemical thing, it’s just getting old.”
