Gaga: I’m a reverse Warhol

Lady Gaga’s new album is the “reverse” of Andy Warhol.

The American pop star is set to release her third studio album ARTPOP later this week. The record was initially delayed after Gaga – real name Stefani Germanotta – underwent hip surgery at the beginning of the year, confining her to a wheelchair.

Speaking in an interview with O2 for the MailOnline, which sees the 27-year-old singer wearing a casual checked shirt with sunglasses and a blonde wig, she explains what the album means to her.

Her aim was to give the record an opposite feel to pieces created by iconic artist Warhol, who was known for his colorful pop art.

“How would I define ARTPOP? Well I’d define it in lots of different ways. On the album I say, ‘We could belong together ARTPOP’, so in the simplest way I would say the dream of these two things belonging, art and pop together but with art in the front,” she explained.

“We sort of like to say if we can belong together you and I, or me and my fans – if we can belong together in this room and make love then maybe our dream of these two things – art and pop- belonging together, maybe that could come true.

“So the intention of the album was to put art culture into pop music, a reverse of Warhol. Instead of putting pop onto the canvas, we wanted to put the art onto the soup can.”

While her music career is back on track, the blonde star’s love life was believed to have come to a halt. Reports surfaced that Gaga had split up from her boyfriend of around two years, actor Taylor Kinney, after he allegedly accused her of putting music before him.

However, a photograph has now surfaced of the pair looking cozy together at the YouTube Music Awards in New York last night. It has also been claimed there is video footage of Gaga and Kinney holding hands and kissing, while wearing matching baseball caps.
