Amanda Bynes’ friend Drake Bell is “really happy” about her progress.
The 27-year-old actress’ worrying behavior caused her to be placed under an involuntary psychiatric order in July last year. She then entered rehab in September to continue her treatment.
Drake, who starred alongside her in her hit Nickelodeon TV program The Amanda Show, is pleased his childhood friend is recovering.
“I’m really happy to see that she’s doing well,” he told In Touch Weekly. “She’s a great friend of mine and I’m a huge fan of her.”
Amanda left the facility in Malibu last December. When asked if he has reached out to his former co-star since she has been at home Drake, 27, revealed the pair have been in contact.
“Yeah, I have. She’s well, so it’s nice to hear,” he smiled.
The handsome actor previously told TMZ that he had tried to get in touch with Amanda during her troubled period. Even then he was keen to help his pal get better.
“I reached out to her a while ago and I hope she’s doing okay,” he said in November. “As soon as she’s allowed to make contact again, I’d like to make sure she’s alright… She’s been a good friend for years.”
Amanda’s parents recently shared how proud they are of their daughter getting her life back on track. She is currently studying at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.
“Amanda is doing great and excelling in her studies,” her family attorney Tamar Arminak told E! News. “She is a natural when it comes to fashion and is really enjoying the learning process… Her parents and family are so proud of her. She is an amazing girl.”
