Firth: Kidman is my work wife

Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman

Colin Firth is proud to have Nicole Kidman as his “work wife”.

The British actor teams up with the Australian star in The Railway Man, about a man who decides to confront the person who tormented him when he was a prisoner of war. It’s the fourth release the pair both feature in and Colin couldn’t think of a better actress to work with.

“That’s not too off base to describe it that way,” he told New York Daily News’ Confidenti@l column when asked if Nicole is his ‘work wife’. “I hope it goes on forever.”

The pair also appear in Paddington and Before I Go To Sleep, plus they are set to shoot Genius together. Being so close to his co-star makes things easier for Colin, as he has started to know what to expect from Nicole on set.

“Once you develop a connection with somebody, it helps you from job to job,” he explained.

“I think her versatility is extraordinary. It’s not just about the extraordinary results she produces, but also the choices she makes are a testament to the kind of mentality she has.”

Colin has played some iconic characters in his time, such as Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice and Mark Darcy in the Bridget Jones movies. There was widespread shock when the character was killed off in Helen Fielding’s latest Bridget book, Mad About the Boy, but Colin has insisted there are no hard feelings.

“Someone came out of a restaurant and accused her of killing Colin Firth!” he laughed to New York Post recently. “I can assure you that when she and I talked about it, there were no tears shed. It was more laughter than tears in that conversation.”
