Will Ferrell jokes he keeps files on Hollywood stars to blackmail them.
The actor is currently promoting his new movie Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. The sequel boasts a series of big names including Harrison Ford, Kanye West, Liam Neeson and Jim Carrey. Will quips he convinced the stars to appear by digging up dirt on them.
“One of the shrewdest things I have ever done in my career is to keep a file on every person in Hollywood that I have or haven’t met,” he told UK TV show Daybreak. “So I had a lot of ways to blackmail people to be in this movie.”
While being interviewed by British talk show host Jonathan Ross, Will recalled Kanye’s time on the film set. Although he makes just a brief cameo in the sequel, it seems the rapper left a lasting impression.
“It was very surreal to have Kanye – who’s such a big fan of comedy – in our movie hanging out for two days. He was playing the new tracks a lot – over and over. Even when you’re trying to film, he’s playing the tracks,” Will said. “They’re loud, too. We got a scared 18-year-old intern to ask him to turn them down.”
Along with playing womanizing newsreader Ron Burgundy in the Anchorman franchise, Will is also loved for his role as Buddy the Elf in 2003 movie Elf.
The star has revealed that his young sons are now fans of the festive film.
“That is another film where I am running around the streets of New York in tights thinking to myself, ‘This could be it, this could be the last movie I ever make,’” he wisecracked to Daybreak. “I just talked to my wife the other day and she said she had popped it in for the boys. We have three boys and we had just done this thing for Saturday Night Live with One Direction – they are this upstart band, they sing, have great hair, you will hear about them soon – my youngest boy was like, ‘Oh there is Buddy the Elf singing with One Direction.’
“So I am not dad anymore, I am Buddy the Elf…”
