Michael Fassbender wishes he could be a Formula 1 driver in the ’80s.
The German-born Irish hunk is currently lighting up the screen as Magneto, his second outing as the X-Men hero in the Marvel Comics franchise.
A Hollywood A-lister isn’t Michael’s number one career choice though, and he often imagines what a life behind the wheel would be like.
“In my fantasy world I’d be a Formula 1 driver in the early ’80s. That would be pretty cool. But in reality if I wasn’t an actor, I’d probably be working behind a bar,” he laughed to Esquire magazine.
He reckons he’s made the right choice though, as the 37-year-old admits he’s pretty useless when it comes to motorsports.
“I relax by going karting. I’m rubbish at it, but I enjoy it. That’s the main thing isn’t it?” he smiled.
Michael’s breakout role came in 2008’s hard hitting, gritty tale Hunger. Directed by Steve McQueen, it premiered at that year’s Cannes Film Festival and cemented Michael’s star status.
While he enjoys some of the trappings of fame, Michael also reminisces about the things he can no longer do.
“The best thing about fame is getting to work with the best people in the business, and doing blockbusters so I can help fun smaller films that wouldn’t get made.
“The worst bit? I used to love to people watch. That’s getting harder to do now,” he mused.
He also revealed that the best age to be is 33 in his opinion, and the person he’d most like to go out for a drink with is Jesus Christ.
