Faris: It’s hard to get work in 30s

Anna Faris and Chris Pratt

Anna Faris thinks it’s harder for women to get work in their late 30s.

The actress’ sitcom Mom is set to debut in the US next week but Anna reveals she didn’t voluntarily make the switch to the small screen.

The movie star, who has a child with actor Chris Pratt, says a number of factors out of her control led to her latest comedy role.

“I had my baby, he’s now 11 months old. After that, I was taking a break that was only partially self-imposed. It’s harder to get work as a woman in her late 30s. I’m 36,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

“I didn’t know what I was going to do. Do I take a few years to raise my kid and travel around with Chris? TV felt tempting but a huge risk,” she confessed.

The Scary Movie star revealed her first script from Mom was delivered directly to her and she loved that her character had a full personality.

The actress felt like she had struck the jackpot with the show and found herself taking the leap to television when she fell in love with her character, Christy, a single parent who has been sober for 118 days.

“As soon as I read it, it felt like Cinderella’s shoe,” Anna explained. “I get to play a fully dimensional character, which I don’t always get to pay. A lot of times women in film – especially in comedies – are saddled with exposition or a softball line for a dude’s joke.

“That’s not as fulfilling as playing a gal who is a mess.”

While Anna is gearing up for an exciting career change, her spouse has been preparing for his role as Peter Quill/Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy.

The film is scheduled for release next year.
