Anna Faris felt like she was slipping on “Cinderella’s shoe” when she read the script for TV comedy Mom.
The Scary Movie star landed the series after giving birth to her son Jack with husband Chris Pratt in 2012.
And Anna admits she wasn’t feeling inspired by any projects coming her way until she stumbled across her character, a newly-sober single mother trying to get her life together in Napa Valley, California.
“I’m so interested in playing such complicated characters and sometimes you come across a role and it feels like a Cinderella shoe,” she explained to Deadline.com.
“It’s so well written, that it makes your job easier and you have a gut sort-of reaction, you know instantly how you’re going to say each line and that’s how I felt with [my character] Christy. I felt like she was familiar, complicated and messy and starting over in her life.”
In retrospect, Anna believes she couldn’t have asked for a better job to go back to.
Now, the star says she’s finding fulfillment in her work like never before.
“It was the perfect job at the perfect time. After I had my baby, I reprioritized my life in general. I really wanted to play characters that gave me a different kind of fulfillment,” she explained.
The actress says Chris is largely to thank, as he was the one who made her pay attention to the script. But heading back to work did come with a little bit of anxiety.
“It was just a manila envelope and my husband (Chris Pratt) pulled it out and it was the pilot script for Mom. And so, he started to read it and he said, ‘You know, honey, I don’t know what you’re doing, but whatever you are, put it down because this is great,’ she recalled.
“…[I] was terrified about the idea of returning to a live audience, but it’s thrilling and terrifying,” she added. “There’s no place to hide as an actor. You can’t pull any of your usual tricks.”
