Emma Watson was adamant she wouldn’t have her first kiss on screen.
The 23-year-old actress shot into the limelight when she won the role of witch Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise, which she began auditioning for aged nine.
While she feels immensely proud of what she has achieved, the star is clear about the dramatic effect it’s had on her private life.
“I remember reading this thing that Elizabeth Taylor wrote. She had her first kiss in character. On a movie set. It really struck me. I don’t know how or why, but I had this sense that if I wasn’t really careful, that could be me,” she told the US edition of Elle magazine. “That my first kiss could be in somebody else’s clothes. And my experiences could all belong to someone else.”
Emma was so intent on having everyday experiences she cooled on making movies for a while so she could go to university. She attended Brown in New York City and the prestigious UK institution Oxford, eventually balancing her studies with shooting films.
The star also managed to have a personal life and is now dating rugby player Matt Janney.
Although she has never been known for her private life, Emma hinted she wonders whether becoming famous so young was such a good idea.
“There are all these actresses who have emerged in the last year or two, and they get to emerge as this complete human being. And I’m so jealous!” she laughed.
