Emilia Clarke: Women nurture too much

Emilia Clarke worries some women take “nurturing” so seriously they lose themselves.

The Game of Thrones actress portrays Daenerys Targaryen in the fantasy TV adaptation. She has been linked to her co-star Richard Madden in the past, but is happy on her own at the moment.

“People keep asking me who I’m dating right now and the truth is… wait for it …no one. And that’s OK. I’m figuring out a lot of stuff right now,” she told British magazine InStyle.

“I think as a woman it’s in our nature to nurture someone else. Sometimes at the expense of ourselves.”

One of the reasons the star is single is because of her busy work life. Emilia has taken the iconic role of Sarah Connor in the upcoming movie reboot Terminator: Genesis and is still shooting Game of Thrones too. She can’t see how she has any time for romance at the moment.

“What I do is so transient, there’s no room for anyone else. You’re travelling, there are always new experiences and everything just seems… never ending,” she said. “Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean it will never end. I am painfully aware that you have good moments in a career and bad. But right now it feels good. I feel good. There’s forward momentum and I feel like I need to see where it takes me.”

The 26-year-old British star’s career means she spends a lot of time away from home, which she’s still getting used to. That doesn’t mean she regrets taking the movie role though, as it has been a valuable experience. She has completed weapons training and been put on a strict diet, but is greeting the opportunity with open arms.

“It’s hard in some ways. You’re like a little crab; you carry everything around with you,” she mused. “Travelling as much as I do makes you appreciate where you’re at. It makes home wonderful. And work is always new and exciting and different because you’re never in one place too long.

“My ideal downtime is any downtime but when I do get a chance to stop for a minute, I spend it with my family and friends.”
