Ellie Goulding confesses she needs to “knuckle down” and get some songs written.
Her first album Lights went straight to the top of the UK album charts, with her follow up Halcyon debuting at number two in Britain and claiming ninth spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
The Starry Eyed songstress ideally wants to release a new album next year and she’s open to trying new sounds.
“I’m really going to start my new album in January; I’m going to knuckle down and try something new this time around. I always want to be doing something different and experimenting, and I don’t really want to do the same thing, I’m kind of superstitious about it,” she explained to MTV News.
“I haven’t started the new album; I’ve done stuff but I don’t think it’s going to be on the new record. I’ve got some collaborations; there’s still stuff I’m working on.”
Her latest offering, Mirror, was chosen as part of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack along with songs by Coldplay, Christina Aguilera and Lorde.
Originally not written for the movie, 26-year-old Ellie thinks it fits in perfectly, even though she’s yet to read any of the books.
“I saw the first film, I know enough about it to write a song for it! I actually wrote [Mirror] about someone, and then I converted it slightly for Hunger Games, because I spoke to the director, and he loved the song so much and wanted it to be about the film,” she gushed.
“He wanted me to talk about the themes and stuff like that. [I re-worked it] and I love it now. It works; it’s perfect now.”
