Ellen scopes eighth Daytime Emmy Award

Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres has won a coveted Daytime Emmy Award.

The ceremony was hosted by Kathy Griffin and took place at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles last night.

One of the most hotly anticipated prizes was for the Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment trophy, with Ellen triumphing and receiving her eighth gong. She beat out stiff competition from the likes of Live! With Kelly & Michael, Rachael Ray, The Talk and The View.

Other big winners included The Young and the Restless, which was named Outstanding Drama Series. Days of our Lives’ Eileen Davidson received the best drama actress prize, with The Young and the Restless’ Billy Miller picking up the male version of the award and another win for the soap.

Good Morning America was named best morning show, with Steve Harvey honored in the Outstanding Talk Show/ Informative category.

One surprise came in the Outstanding Talk Show Host group, with Dr Mehmet Oz and Katie Couric named joint winners.

This year the ceremony wasn’t aired on a major network or cable channel for the first time in years. Instead it was streamed online, allowing some of the presenters to have a little fun when handing out awards.

Sharon Osbourne in particular took full advantage of being able to use profanity while on stage, hurrying Entertainment Tonight’s executive producer Linda Bell Blue during her speech. The show was named joint best entertainment news program alongside Extra.

“It’s not being televised! Get on with it!” Sharon joked, “I feel like I’ve been here for five f**king hours.”

Host Kathy was also on good form, taking pot shots at many from the Kardashians to Mario Lopez.
