Zac Efron has thanked fans for their support in the wake of his alleged rehab stints.
The 25-year-old former High School Musical star allegedly sought professional help for some issues in March and again while shooting forthcoming comedy Neighbors.
Early reports suggested Zac had struggled with alcohol addiction while TMZ claimed he was battling a “serious” cocaine problem and had recently suffered a relapse.
Zac took to Instagram on Friday to thank fans for their support in the wake of the substance abuse claims.
“Hey guys! Just returned from an incredible trip to Peru with my dad and wanted to thank you all for your support these past few weeks… means the world to me. Love you guys! – Z,” he wrote.
While the actor did not address reports of drug and alcohol abuse directly he did appear to be happy and healthy in the accompanying photograph.
The star posted an image of himself perched on a rock smiling on the father-son trip to South America.
Recent reports have suggested Zac is now getting his life back on track and is focused on making movies.
“Not being fit for work was a big wake-up call. Zac doesn’t want stories of his partying to stand in the way of him becoming an even bigger star,” a source told British magazine Heat this week.
Apparently it was “common knowledge” the heartthrob was using drugs while filming Neighbors with Seth Rogen, Dave Franco and Rose Byrne. However, insiders say he’s now dedicating his time to working on the script of new thriller, Fire, and on regaining his self-confidence.
“Zac’s been beaten for several key roles lately, by the likes of Charlie Hunnam and Channing Tatum, and it’s made him question if he has what it takes to take his career to the next level,” the source added. “Coke made him feel more confident. He liked the way he felt on it… too much.”
Zac can next be seen in Peter Landesman drama Parkland, about the assassination of former US President John F. Kennedy. The film is scheduled for US release next month.
Neighbors is slated to hit cinemas in the spring.
