Michelle Dockery has called Liam Neeson the “alternative Bond”.
The Downton Abbey star appears alongside the Irish hard man in Non-Stop, which also stars Julianne Moore and Lupita Nyong’o. She was thrilled to team up with Liam, who is famed for appearing in action releases such as the Taken franchise. Although he’s now 61, Michelle thinks he could give current 007 star Daniel Craig a run for his money.
“He’s great… he’s become this icon, this action hero over the past few years. I guess in some ways he’s like an alternative Bond!” she laughed to British magazine Look.
Non-Stop sees an air marshal have to make some huge decisions after he receives a string of text messages on board a flight, which threaten the lives of the other passengers.
The movie is a far cry from Michelle’s turn as Lady Mary in UK period drama Downton Abbey, but she enjoyed pushing herself to portray Nancy.
“It’s really unpredictable – that’s what I got from the first reading of the script. You really don’t know what’s coming,” she explained.
While she is used to buttoning up in corsets to star in Downton, Non-Stop saw Michelle preparing in totally different ways.
“I had to do a bit of self-defense, which was great – it’s a completely different way of working. It’s very technical, it’s not about the dialogue,” she explained.
