Dakota Johnson is reportedly having a “tough” time with her newfound fame.
The actress won the highly coveted role of Anastasia Steele in the forthcoming big screen adaptation of E.L. James’ erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey, suddenly making her subject of rampant tabloid fodder.
But 24-year-old Dakota is already said to be overwhelmed – and production hasn’t even started yet.
“Dakota is having a very hard time dealing with all the press. When she first got the role, it was way too much for her,” a source told E! News, adding that Dakota went from being virtually unknown to someone “everyone wants a piece of”.
“It’s been tough,” the insider shared.
Dakota is not the only one reportedly having trouble with the pressure of the role. Charlie Hunnam has already dropped out, citing scheduling issues.
However, America’s People magazine reports the Sons of Anarchy star feared taking on the part of protagonist Christian Grey would turn him into the next Robert Pattinson.
“More than anything he hates attention and being in Fifty Shades of Grey would force him to do lots of media,” another source tells E! “That’s really not his thing. Charlie doesn’t want to be massively famous. Plus, he hates conforming and being told what to do. This role would force him to have to be something he is not.”
While Dakota may be having second thoughts about appearing in the erotic trilogy, she definitely has strong support.
Her mother Melanie Griffith is delighted with the role, and can’t wait to see her daughter play Anastasia.
“My beautiful child Dakota has been chosen to play Anna Steele in 50 Shades!!! Look out world!” Melanie previously tweeted. “Here she comes!!! #proudmama.”
Fifty Shades of Grey is scheduled for release next summer.
