Tom Cruise wanted to enjoy every moment of working with Jack Nicholson.
The two Hollywood heavyweights starred alongside each other in 1992’s A Few Good Men, an opportunity a young Tom relished.
It earned Jack his tenth Oscar nomination, and left Tom gagging for more screen time with the legendry actor.
“I couldn’t wait to play that courtroom scene in A Few Good Men with Jack Nicholson. I’d been thinking about it for months. And it was like, here it is, man, I’m going to enjoy every moment of this,” Tom recalled to British GQ magazine.
“People came from all around just to watch us play that scene. They were showing up along the edges! So many people. And when the scene ended the first time, there was applause. Everyone around, applauding. God, it was exciting. It was electric.”
There were reports last year that 76-year-old Jack was looking to retire from acting as he suffers from memory loss, but the rumors were quickly dismissed.
He’s currently filming a new project with Warren Beatty based on Howard Hughes, though the name of the film has not yet been revealed.
Since working with Jack in the early ’90s, Tom, 51, says the One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest star has become a firm friend.
“Any time I see him [Jack], I look at him, and I know he’s a friend.
“I’ve wanted to work with Jack again since then. And it doesn’t matter how old he is, or whatever, he’s just a guy you want to see on film. It goes to the heart of what it is that makes people who they are and why? As an audience, you want to go on that journey with him,” Tom smiled.
