Simon Cowell has reportedly signed up to attend an exclusive “dad coaching school”.
The music mogul is set to become a father for the first time in February next year, with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman currently pregnant. Simon has admitted he doesn’t know much about dealing with babies, so it has been claimed he has enrolled in a weekly parenting class.
“Simon has signed up to an exclusive dad coaching school. Simon is a lot older than most first-time fathers and children were never really on his radar,” a source told British magazine Grazia. “But he wants to do right by his son and Lauren, so he’s doing everything he can to ensure he’s prepared. He has been learning how to swaddle, soothe and burp. He even gets homework.”
This class is specially targeted at more mature fathers and Simon must attend lessons lasting two-and-a-half-hours each week. Simon is learning the basics of parenting from a “veteran dad” who holds the sessions in Los Angeles.
It seems Simon is also keen for Lauren to get involved, as she will be joining him for future classes. These sessions are aimed at helping couples work as a team when their baby arrives.
The 54-year-old TV star confessed in a recent interview that he is lacking in skills when it comes to dealing with newborns.
“I’m not brilliant with babies. I never know what to do. But [once he’s older] I think I’ll be a good dad in terms of advice,” he told Parade. “And then I’ll get to do all the things I want to do, like go to Disneyland or Universal Studios, teach him how to drive – I love all that.”
