Clive Owen will never forget what it’s like to struggle financially.
The 49-year-old actor has an impressive back catalogue, with movies such as The Bourne Identity and Children of Men boosting his bank balance as well as his résumé. He has vowed never to let money turn his head though, not least because of the way he was raised.
“I’ve got more money,” he told the British edition of Hello! magazine, when asked how his life has changed. “I come from a very, very working class background. I spent my childhood not having money and that was a constant burden. I’m fortunate enough now to have considerably more than I used to, but I’ll never forget where I come from because there is a huge number of people in the world who are stressed about money and I don’t want to forget that I used to be one of them.”
The actor and his wife Sarah-Jane got married in 1995 and they have two daughters together, Hannah and Eve. Clive remains in awe of how well his partner organizes their family life, especially as she is often dealing with things alone.
“The brilliant thing about Sarah-Jane is that when we met we were both acting and she understands all that my job means – the travelling and the time spent apart,” he explained. “I’m very fortunate in that I’m given the opportunity to go off and be creative and make movies while she’s the rock of the family, making sure that the girls are centered and grounded. We’ve been together for 20 years this year and we’ve had the best time. We’re a very good team.”
