Brittany Murphy’s half-brother is convinced the actress was murdered.
The Clueless actress died suddenly in 2009 aged 32 and recent evidence suggests she may have been poisoned. Brittany’s sibling Tony Bertolotti welcomes the renewed interest into her demise and supports the campaign to reopen the investigation into her death.
“She was murdered, I believe. By whose hands, good luck with that, I don’t know,” he told British magazine Grazia.
The Los Angeles County coroner ruled that Brittany died of anemia, pneumonia and “multiple drug intoxication”. Before her passing, the star and her husband Simon Monjack – who was found dead at the marital home five months later under similar circumstances – had both complained of dizziness, headaches and gastrointestinal issues.
There was also speculation that Brittany had been using drugs around the time she died. Tony has hit back at the claims, insisting his half-sister was totally focused on her career.
“She was not a drug addict, that is all bullsh*t! They tried to make her out as some Marilyn Monroe or some nonsense; this girl was a very disciplined actress,” he fumed. “She was on the up, she was a conscientious, healthy girl, she was a bright person and all of a sudden she gets a cold and dies. It’s absurd. It’s about time it was reinvestigated.”
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has reportedly said it could also reopen the investigation into Brittany’s death if they are provided with “credible evidence” of a homicide.
