Britney Spears admits that writing her new album helped her get over the split with Jason Trawick.
The Toxic singer ended her engagement with former manager Jason in January this year after dating for nearly three years.
At the time the couple were reported to be sleeping in separate bedrooms, with their relationship evolving into more of a friendship.
However Britney hasn’t dwelled on the past, and confesses that writing songs for her new album Britney Jean helped speed up the healing process.
“It was very therapeutic, yeah. I got over it really fast,” she told MTV with a laugh.
But while the mother-of-two may be laughing now some of the album tracks take a closer look at how she felt after the breakup.
And Britney has found that many of the old clichés about love and loss ring true.
“Basically, what [the tracks are] talking about, your love is gone [but] you’ll never forget it. The time goes by and time heals, and all those wonderful beautiful breakup things that you say,” she explained.
Britney isn’t the only sufferer of heartbreak to feature on her album. She enlisted the help of fellow hit maker Katy Perry for a track called Passenger.
And while the two didn’t get the chance to work in the recording studio together, the 32-year-old hit maker couldn’t speak highly enough of the Fireworks songstress.
“My people and her people worked it out, but I’m a huge fan of hers. I think she’s an amazing vocalist and she has a beautiful voice,” she gushed.
“And I love the song. From the moment I heard the song, I was like, ‘This is really beautiful.’ So I was really proud I was able to do it.”
