Russell Brand’s attorney denied the actor cheated on Jemima Khan in a UK court Monday.
The actor, who previously balked at the claims, is suing UK newspaper The Sun for making accusations he slept with glamor model Sophie Coady while dating the heiress earlier this year.
Russell’s lawyer addressed the issue during a court hearing, referencing a letter in which the actor admits to sleeping with the model, according to the outlet.
However, the star formally denied the cheating claims.
“We have set out clearly that there was no overlap,” attorney John Kelly said.
News Group Newspapers, which owns The Sun, argues it is not about when Russell’s intimacy with Jemima began, but when their relationship became romantic.
High Court Master Victoria McCloud ruled the actor’s legal team must provide further details.
Russell previously lashed out against The Sun in an editorial published in The Guardian.
In the piece, the Forgetting Sarah Marshall star compared News Corp chief executive Rupert Murdoch to Adolph Hitler, and complained lies had been printed about his personal life.
“The pain, disruption and distress, that the Sun inflicted by falsely claiming that I cheated on my girlfriend, in the context of such awesome corruption, is a pale liver-spot on the back of Murdoch’s glabrous claw,” Russell wrote last month.
“Still though, it’s a tiny part of the demon’s dermatology and as such, connected to all the other pestilence.”
