Douglas Booth says Cara Delevingne is “mad” but “good fun”.
The British actor is carving out a successful career in Hollywood after landing roles in movies such as Romeo and Juliet, Noah and LOL. Douglas still feels star struck when he meets his heroes, and can recall accompanying model-of-the-moment Cara to the New York Met Ball in 2011.
“I went with Cara Delevingne before she became so big. It was the first time she had done a big red carpet. She was really nervous and almost shaking. Now she takes it in her stride! She’s mad, mad from the first moment I met her, but good fun!” Douglas told British magazine Grazia.
“I remember that night her going, ‘Hey, Douglas, meet my friend.’ I turned around and it was Kanye West. It’s that kind of night. It’s fun but it doesn’t compare to going to the pub with your mates.
“It was the most insane thing you can ever go to. You’re like, ‘Oh, there’s Beyoncé and Jay Z,’ and ‘Oh look, there’s the Fannings with Gwyneth Paltrow’. It’s ridiculous.”
Douglas plays Romeo alongside Hailee Steinfeld as Juliet in director Carlo Carlei’s remake of the Shakespeare classic. He first met his co-star at the same glitzy party two years ago.
“I saw her across the ballroom. It was like life imitating art. She was very humble, you know, for a 14-year-old Oscar nominee,” the actor smiled. “Working with Hailee was great fun. She’s so mature. She’s going to be a big star.”
Douglas says making Romeo and Juliet was a fantastic experience. He was fully aware of the pressure of taking on such an iconic role.
“We had an amazing time filming,” he said. “Playing Romeo was a huge challenge and it was daunting to take on something so iconic.”
