Orlando Bloom says Miranda Kerr is still “family” in the wake of their split.
The couple released a joint statement Friday revealing they have been “amicably separated” for the last few months.
The break-up came as a surprise as the British actor and Australian model, who share a two-year-old son, were not known to have suffered marital problems.
Orlando stepped out in New York City Friday, saying only kind words about his estranged wife.
Asked if they had remained friends, the actor told a TMZ videographer: “We’re not friends. We’re family.”
The Pirates of the Caribbean star did confess he wished things had ended differently for the couple.
Looking at his phone as he made his way to a waiting car, Orlando said he’s making the best of the situation.
“It’s all good,” he said. “Life’s a mystery. Things don’t always work out the way you want, but it’s all good.”
Orlando and Miranda started dating in 2007 and became engaged in June 2010. The following month they confirmed they had married in a secret ceremony. Her pregnancy was announced in August the same year.
The couple were last photographed together on October 8.
Their last public appearance came in September, when the model supported Orlando at the opening of his Broadway show Romeo and Juliet.
