Blanchett: Kissing Pitt is boring

Cate Blanchett claims her home life is more exciting than “kissing Brad Pitt”.

The actress has three sons with her husband Andrew Upton and ensuring the family unit is happy is the most important thing to her. Although she gets pleasure from appearing on the big screen, for her nothing can beat the rush of being with her loved ones.

“The first privilege in my job is the possibility to live other people’s lives… But I am also a wife, and a full time mom,” she told “No commitment equals the beautiful moments spent with my three sons. I live with four men, including my husband, it can be really fun. More exciting than kissing Leonardo DiCaprio or Brad Pitt.”

The actress won the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama Golden Globe for her role in Blue Jasmine at Sunday night’s Los Angeles ceremony.

Although she has received over 90 awards during her career, acting wasn’t her first choice. When she was younger the star looked to music to help her cope with her difficult circumstances.

“My father died when I was just a kid: I felt abandoned, and I soon learnt to perceive the fragility of life. I liked reading and listening to music: Nick Cave was my idol and I used to fantasize about being a rock star, just to beat the melancholy,” she explained. “I can’t read music, but it keeps me company, like books. I don’t only read Roald Dahl to my children, but also Ionesco and Italo Calvino.”

Cate also discussed what makes a good actress. She doesn’t understand why people think women who are interested in fashion and beauty aren’t strong, as for her femininity takes in many different aspects.

“I love good actresses, women committed to something they truly feel. This does not prevent them from being feminine, curious about fashion and glamorous. I don’t feel as sexy or beautiful as younger actresses (I am thinking of Amy Adams), yet, for women, it is fundamental to know how to express style and personality,” she said.
