Kim Basinger is scared of “selfies”.
The 60-year-old actress’ career really took off in the ’80s and she’s glad the internet wasn’t big business then. She can’t imagine the stress put on up-and-coming stars by social media sites these days and doesn’t understand why people are so determined to detail everything about their lives on them.
“If you look at this generation of selfies and selfies and selfies, it seems a little bit scary,” she told Interview magazine. “I like to see a driven kid, somebody who wants to come from the ground up… you just don’t know what’s going to happen to this generation.”
Kim is often credited with being of the sexiest actresses of her generation. While it boosts her confidence to hear that, the star thinks many of her fans would be let down if they knew what she was like at home.
“I’m more bare-footed Rastafarian, crazy,” she laughed.
Kim has previously discussed her career and life, admitting she’s been through tough times. She has been single since her acrimonious split from her ex-husband Alec Baldwin, who is the father of her daughter Ireland.
“In this business you can be at the top of the world and at the bottom of the barrel, and you’re grape juice. I’ve been at both ends. It can make you become what you really are,” she said to People, before opening up about a period which saw her take medication to ease her anxiety.
“Now I wake up and enjoy life. I didn’t want to live on drugs. I wanted to face everything I was afraid of.”
