Drew Barrymore finds splitting herself between her two children the hardest aspect of parenting.
The actress and husband Will Kopelman welcomed their second daughter Frankie into the world on April 22. They are also proud parents to 19-month-old Olive, but having another tot to look after means Drew’s time management is a much more challenging task.
“Just being split,” she sighed when People magazine asked her what the biggest challenge of being a mom was. “They’re awake and asleep at different times, or awake at the same time, and it’s a juggling act a little bit.”
Giving Olive a new brother or sister was more important than just providing their daughter with a new playmate. Drew has spoken in the past about how she longed for a sibling when she was a youngster, and feels now that her two children will always have each other to rely on.
“[I wanted Olive] to have a sibling, because I really would have liked that in my life,” she says. “And always being on time, being there when I say I’m going to be there. Creating a real stable home. I know when my daughter wants to swing higher and jump into the pool and all of these things; she feels safe. To make your kids feel safe is everything.
“Olive loves Frankie and just wants to hang out with her all the time. She wants to feed her. She’s super into it. That’s now. I’m sure things will ebb and flow.”
Drew shared the first pictures of Frankie with the publication, with Will and Olive present too.
But the hardworking mom has no time to stop, as she’s busy promoting new movie Blended, which also stars Adam Sandler.
While the 39-year-old was at first hesitant to leave her children, she confesses Adam made it easier for her. The pair have collaborated on two previous films and share a close bond.
“I didn’t think I could go back to work, honestly. I didn’t want to be away from my kids and it just wasn’t the priority. With Adam, he makes everything really safe because he really creates an environment where kids can come and be a part of it. It was a really big lesson for me,” she said.
